Cape Town seals R8 billion deal to buy solar power from two independent power producers [SOUND]

# The City of Cape Town has concluded its first power purchase agreements worth an estimated eight-billion-rand, with two independent solar power producers, Jempec Energy and Make a Difference. These are worth 70 megawatts of power at a lower price than Eskom tariffs. Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis says the 20-year agreements are with solar plants that will be connected to the metro’s grid in Atlantis and Philippi. He adds that the deals will also avoid nearly two million tonnes of carbon emissions:
