# We start with the SA Sport Awards: Olympic silver medallist sprinter Akani Simbine was named Sport Star of the Year at the awards held in North West. Swimmer Pieter Coetze and middle-distance runner Prudence Sekgodiso won Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year, respectively. Sportsman of the Year with a Disability went to Puseletso Mabote, with Simoné Kruger claiming the women’s category. Olympic silver medallist Bayanda Walaza won Junior Sport Star of the Year. Team of the Year went to the Proteas Men’s cricket Test side.

# Rugby: Richie Mo’unga will make his long-awaited return to the All Blacks in tomorrow evening’s clash against the Lions at Ellis Park. The 32-year-old fly-half has not featured for New Zealand since their defeat to the Springboks in the 2023 World Cup final. Patrick Tuipulotu will be captain. Prop Saula Ma’u is poised to make his All Blacks debut from the bench. Coach Dave Rennie says Mo’unga has earned his place:

Other rugby news, the Cheetahs have joined the Griquas in securing a Currie Cup home semifinal, after a hard-fought 33-24 victory over an ill-disciplined Boland Kavaliers in Bloemfontein. The visitors, who were leading 10-7 at the break, conceded four yellow cards in the space of ten minutes. Michael Annie ran in two of the Cheetahs’ five tries to secure victory. The Griquas sit top of the log on 26 points, level with the Cheetahs but ahead on points difference, and next weekend’s final pool round will determine who finishes top.

# Motorsport: McLaren’s Lando Norris claimed his second straight race victory at the Dutch Grand Prix. The Briton crossed the line ahead of the Mercedes pair of Kimi Antonelli and George Russell. Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc finished fourth and fifth, respectively, for Ferrari. The home favourite, Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, crashed after just one lap. The result leaves Antonelli with a 59-point championship lead over Russell. Norris says his car still needs a lot of improvement:

# And tennis: Frenchman Arthur Fils claimed the biggest title of his career at the Cincinnati Open. The 21st seed defeated American Frances Tiafoe to secure his first ATP Masters One-thousand crown. Fils has now moved up ten spots to a career-high eleventh in the world rankings. In the women’s draw, American Coco Gauff defeated compatriot Jessica Pegula to win her second Cincinnati Open title. Fils says his hard work has paid off:
