# Deputy minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Thandi Moraka, has urged the media to help promote a more informed understanding of migration and regional relations, while encouraging people entering South Africa to comply with the country’s immigration laws and regulations. This is ahead of the 46th Ordinary Southern African Development Community Summit set to be held in Durban today. Moraka says migration is a global phenomenon, with people moving across borders for a range of reasons, including seeking economic opportunities and pursuing academic development:
# Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee, investigating allegations of political interference, corruption and criminality within the criminal justice system, will consider its preliminary report today. The committee has spent months listening to testimony sparked by allegations made by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi. Having wrapped up its witness testimonies in March, the committee has since been working to consolidate the evidence presented into a final report. The preliminary report is now in its fourth draft, after parties expressed their unhappiness with previous drafts that made no adverse findings against anyone.
# Acting minister of Police, Firoz Cachalia, has commended the multidisciplinary team led by the Hawks in the arrest of a second suspect linked to the killing of two Anti-Gang Unit members and two women in Reiger Park last week. The 24-year-old suspect was apprehended yesterday following an intensive tracing operation by the multidisciplinary team. The first suspect, 23-year-old Reagan Collis, appeared in court last week. Police spokesperson Kamogelo Mogotsi says everyone responsible for these senseless murders will be held accountable:
# US envoy Jared Kushner, son-in-law of president Donald Trump, held rare talks with Hamas’ leaders in Egypt yesterday. Discussions focused on the implementation of Trump’s Board of Peace 15-point plan, which mandated that Hamas disarm in exchange for providing a full Israeli military withdrawal from the Gaza Strip. This will lead to an eventual transition of power to an independent Palestinian National Committee. Israel has rejected the plan. The meeting marked a rare direct engagement between a senior US envoy and Hamas leadership. Kushner also met Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
# Soccer: Cameroon defeated debutants Malawi 3-0 to claim their first-ever Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title in Rabat, Morocco. Cameroon is the fourth different nation to win WAFCON, joining Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea and South Africa. Cameroon goalkeeper Michaely Kyria Bihia says the team gave everything to win:
