# Cuba is marking the 100th anniversary of Fidel Castro’s birth, as the country battles one of its worst economic and political crises. More than one-thousand-500 activists from over 60 countries have travelled to Cuba for commemorative events honouring the former revolutionary leader. Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel says Castro’s legacy remains important in confronting today’s challenges. However, the country is experiencing power cuts of more than 20 hours a day in many provinces, while US President Donald Trump’s administration has imposed an oil embargo and tightened sanctions, adding to pressure on Cuba’s economy.
