Babita Deokaran honoured with Memorial statue

# The life and legacy of slain anti-corruption whistleblower Babita Deokaran is being honored with the unveiling of a memorial statue at the Shri Mariammem Temple, north of Durban, KwaZulu-Natal today. This comes as South Africa commemorates Women’s Day. Deokaran was assassinated outside her Johannesburg home on August 23, 2021, after she uncovered and flagged over 850-million-rand in suspicious, fraudulent procurement transactions and shady tender payments tied to Tembisa Hospital. The memorial aims to preserve her legacy of courage and integrity, while inspiring the fight against corruption.
