# ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa says the party will recall mayors and councillors who fail to deliver services and serve people well, as the country prepares for the upcoming local government election in November. Ramaphosa was speaking during the ANC voter registration engagements and community mobilisation activities in the Madibeng Local Municipality, North West. The president encourages voter registration and advancing the ANC’s programme to build better communities through capable local government:

Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission has once again urged eligible voters to use the rest of today to register, verify, and update their details to ensure they are accurately captured. IEC CEO Sy Mamabolo reminds eligible voters they will not have another opportunity for voting station-based registration ahead of the 2026 local government elections:

# Eskom strengthened South Africa’s energy security last month through record-high plant performance, and significantly reduced unplanned breakdowns during a high winter electricity demand in the country. The power utility reached a daily high of 82.4-percent on 26 July, marking the best daily performance level recorded since September 2017. Eskom spokesperson, Daphne Mokwena, says the unplanned outages were reduced to their lowest level in eight years, below the five-thousand-megawatts mark:

# A homemade bomb carried by a woman killed three people and injured at least 21 in an explosion near an upscale Italian restaurant in central Moscow on Saturday evening. Russia’s Anti-Terrorism Committee said an unidentified woman had tried to get into the restaurant but was stopped by a security guard. The woman, the security guard, and a customer had been killed in the blast that followed. A local newspaper suggested the bomb was set off remotely and⁠ the woman carrying it may not have known it was an explosive device.

# And finally, Currie Cup news:

The Lions put on a comprehensive performance to demolish the Bulls 15 by 42-19 in their Currie Cup game at the University of Johannesburg Stadium on Saturday evening. The Lions were totally dominant against a Bulls side missing 45 players from their contracted squad and losing three players to injury this past week. The Lions ended the first half 28-0 up and scored six converted tries.

In Cape Town, the Stormers 23 produced a strong final quarter in an otherwise close game to secure a well-deserved 36-28 win over the Sharks 15 in front of an enthusiastic crowd on Saturday afternoon.

The weekend’s Currie Cup encounters kicked off on Friday night when the Griquas handed the Cheetahs their first loss in this year’s competition, winning 24-21 in an exciting and entertaining game in Kimberley.

The action will conclude this afternoon at three in Wellington with the Boland Kavaliers hosting the Pumas.
