# We begin with rugby: All Blacks coach Dave Rennie has named a strong 44-man squad for the Greatest Rivalry tour of South Africa. He has retained all 34 players from their successful Nations Championship campaign, while adding ten players for the seven-week tour. Siale Lauaki, Josh Jacomb and Semisi Tupou Ta’eiloa are the debutants, while experienced Reiko Ioane is one of seven players being recalled. Rennie says the tour will challenge the squad:

# Commonwealth Games: South Africa’s Pieter Coetze stormed to another gold medal and another Games record, this time in the 200-metres, to add to his 50-metres heroics. He won in one-minute-54.22-seconds with England’s Oliver Morgan and Luke Greenbank coming in second and third, respectively. Aimee Canny won silver in the women’s 100-metres breaststroke and Olivia Nel secured bronze in the women’s 100-metres backstroke. In netball, South Africa made it two victories from two with an emphatic 96-42 victory over Tonga. South Africa’s medal tally currently stands at nine.

# Soccer: Government has called on South Africans to unite behind Banyana Banyana, as they seek to defend their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title in Morocco. Desiree Ellis’s charges will open their campaign against Tanzania this evening. Spokesperson William Baloyi says the players carry the hopes of the nation, and together, the country can inspire them to give their very best:

# Motorsport: McLaren’s Lando Norris won the Hungarian Grand Prix, his first victory of the season. The Briton, who started on pole, lost out to his teammate Oscar Piastri in the opening lap but retook the lead after the second round of pit stops. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli finished second and third respectively. Piastri was forced to retire with 14 laps remaining due to a gearbox problem. Antonelli has extended his championship lead to 50 points over Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton and 59 points over his teammate, George Russell.

# And cycling: Slovenian Tadej Pogačar has won a record-equalling fifth Tour de France title. The 27-year-old UAE Team Emirates-XRG rider finished six-minutes-and-26-seconds ahead of Belgian rider Remco Evenepoel in the overall standings, with Mexican Isaac del Toro finishing third. The final stage was won by the Netherlands’ Mathieu van der Poel of Alpecin-Premier Tech. Pogačar, who won five stages, described the victory as special:
