CapeNature reminds visitors that simple actions like picking wildflowers, leaving marked hiking trails, disturbing wildlife or taking rocks and shells from protected areas can be biodiversity crimes. The conservation agency says these actions can harm fragile ecosystems and undermine conservation efforts. Between April and June this year, the organisation registered ten biodiversity crime cases and issued 48 fines. CapeNature CEO Ashley Naidoo encourages the public to obtain the correct permits and report illegal activities to help protect the Western Cape’s natural heritage.
