Mining sector urges collaborative approach to community development

# The Minerals Council South Africa says mining companies must work together to deliver lasting benefits for communities instead of relying on individual social and labour plans. The council’s CEO, Mzila Mthenjane, says although the industry has invested more than 100-billion-rand in community projects since 2004, more coordinated efforts are needed to tackle poverty, unemployment and poor infrastructure. Mthenjane added stronger partnerships with government and other stakeholders are needed to create jobs and grow local economies.
