# Manufacturing industry bodies have urged the National Treasury to clarify comments suggesting manufacturing may not be South Africa’s main source of future job growth. Steel and Engineering Industries Federation of Southern Africa, the Manufacturing Circle and Polasa say manufacturing remains vital for industrial development, exports and economic resilience. They warn that mixed policy signals could undermine investor confidence and long-term investment. The organisations are calling for a stable and consistent policy environment, backed by infrastructure investment and procurement reforms to strengthen the sector and create sustainable jobs.
