French court ruling paves the way for Marine Le Pen to potentially run in the 2027 presidential race

# France’s far-right National Rally party leader, Marine Le Pen, has been cleared to stand for next year’s presidential elections. This comes after the Paris Appeal Court upheld her conviction of embezzling funds from the European Parliament, but shortened her sentence. The court has reduced her political ineligibility from five years to 45 months, of which she has already served 30 months. Le Pen will serve the remaining year under house arrest with an electronic bracelet. Four other party members were also convicted of the misappropriation of public funds.
