# The Madlanga Commission has questioned Independent Police Investigative Directorate assistant director Takalani Maphosho over her assessment of Major General Feroz Khan’s statement regarding the 2021 Aeroton drug bust in the South of Johannesburg. Commissioner Sesi Baloyi suggested Maphosho’s evidence was contradictory, arguing that Khan had provided a detailed account of his actions at the scene in a comprehensive statement. Maphosho acknowledged the commission’s concerns and accepted the criticism:
# The FF Plus calls for an investigation into an alleged email linked to the agriculture department concerning foot-and-mouth disease. The email, reportedly marked “just for the joke” and circulating on social media, is said to have been sent by a senior official to top department executives. The party’s Wynand Boshoff says the matter raises concerns about attitudes towards the livestock disease crisis:
# The City of Johannesburg has assured Parliament’s Standing Committee on Public Accounts and the Portfolio Committee on Cooperative Governance that it is implementing measures to address financial management weaknesses highlighted in its 2024/25 audit. The metro received a qualified audit, with concerns including unfunded budgets, unauthorised expenditure and significant revenue losses. Chief Financial Officer Tebogo Moraka said the city had 7.5-billion-rand in outstanding creditor debt at the end of May. He says settling debts owed to Johannesburg Water, City Power and Pikitup will be a priority.
# The South African Ambassador to Italy, Nosipho Jezile, says South Africa and Italy share a commitment to using agriculture as a driver of food security, job creation and rural development. Speaking at the South Africa–Italy Agriculture Business Forum in Cape Town, Jezile welcomed discussions focused on agri-technology, water management and value-added processing. She says stronger partnerships are essential to confront climate change, food security pressures and transboundary animal diseases:
# Soccer: Iran has accused the US of revoking its ticket allocation for the World Cup in the country, Canada and Mexico, starting on Thursday. The country’s governing body says the co-host has once again acted to obstruct the presence of Iranian supporters at its stadiums. Iran plays all three of its group matches against New Zealand, Belgium and Egypt in America. The rules dictate a participating team must be allocated eight-percent of tickets for each match, and Iran says fans have already made travel and accommodation plans.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 16-rand-41-cents against the rand and the euro at 18-rand-99-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-1-cents and Bitcoin trades at 62-thousand-173-dollars. Gold sells at four-thousand-327-dollars-33-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 90-dollars-28-cents a barrel.
