Parliamentary Police committee welcomes suspension of senior officers linked to Medicare24 tender

# Parliament’s portfolio committee on Police has welcomed the suspension of an additional five senior police officers in connection with the controversial 360-million-rand Medicare24 tender. A total of 14 police officers have been arrested over this tender awarded to attempted murder-accused Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala’s company. Committee chairperson Ian Cameron says the suspensions are a necessary step towards achieving meaningful accountability. He adds that corruption within the SAPS not only undermines legislated processes and procurement systems, but also erodes public trust in the police.
