Zambia approves cross-border power line to boost energy trade

# Zambia’s Energy Regulation Board has approved the Kalumbila-Kolwezi Interconnector Project. This is a 200 kilometre, 330 kilovolt transmission line connecting Zambia’s North-Western Province to the Democratic Republic of Congo. Valued at approximately 5.1-billion-rand, the project aims to strengthen regional power trade and attract private investment in energy infrastructure. It will link to First Quantum Minerals’ Sentinel mine substation in Kalumbila, helping address power shortages caused by drought-affected hydroelectric output and supporting mining operations in both countries.
