# An academic at the University of the Witwatersrand, professor Tracy-Lynn Field, says government plans to amend the Water Services Act won’t solve South Africa’s water services problems. Government has a new plan to license water providers and revoke the licences if they don’t deliver clean, drinkable water. In many cities and towns across South Africa, water shortages and supply disruptions have become more frequent. Field says many municipalities do not have enough money coming in regularly to cover the costs of delivering water, as consumers are unable or unwilling to pay for water.
