# The Western Cape government has welcomed a decline in road deaths over Easter, with 22 fatalities recorded, down from 26 last year. Between 17 and 21 April, over 30-thousand vehicles were checked, 19-thousand fines issued, and 226 arrests made. In addition, emergency services responded to nearly eight-thousand incidents, including 189 transport-related emergencies and over three-thousand trauma cases. Despite the progress, officials stress the need for responsible road use as another long weekend nears.
