# The Western Cape government says social workers are vital to building healthy, functioning societies. The provincial Social Development Department employs over one-thousand-100 social work professionals at different levels, such as social workers and social work policy developers. It has also funded or subsidised over one-thousand-200 posts for social service professionals on varying levels at non-profit organisations. Social Development MEC, Jaco Londt, says a whole-of-society and whole-of-government approach is needed to address social issues.
