# The Western Cape Government has introduced a performance-based standards policy allowing eligible heavy vehicles to carry higher payloads while improving safety and reducing road wear. Applications open online from 1 November. The Western Cape MEC for Mobility Isaac Sileku says the policy replaces rigid size and weight limits, focusing on vehicle performance metrics. Sileku says it boosts efficiency, lowers costs and emissions, enhances safety, protects infrastructure, and supports economic growth and sustainable transport in the province:
