# The Western Cape Health Department has intensified its public health efforts in response to a surge in measles cases in Gauteng. A total of 181 laboratory-confirmed measles cases have been reported in Gauteng from January to the 13th of June this year. University of the Western Cape Academic Division Head at the School of Nursing, professor Talitha Crowley, says vaccination coverage in the province, reportedly under 75-percent, is well below the threshold to prevent outbreaks:
