# The City of Tshwane says the continued erection of illegal structures and unlawful occupation of land is contributing to the rapid growth of informal settlements across the metro. Mayoral committee member for Human Settlements, Aaron Maluleka, conducted an oversight visit to the Koekemoer Informal Settlement in Centurion yesterday. The settlement originated from a farm occupied by farm workers and has since expanded over time. The department’s spokesperson, Doreen Mokgolo, says the metro cannot undertake permanent development projects on privately owned land:
