Frenchman Alexandre Muller caused an upset by overcoming fifth seed Karen Khachanov from Russia in a three-set thriller, 4-6, 7-6, 6-4. In other men’s matches, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Fabian Marozsan both secured straight-set victories. On the women’s side, China’s Zhang Shuai advanced to the second round after a hard-fought win over Anastasia Zakharova. Other results included wins for Katie Boulter and Barbora Krejcikova.
