# More than 1.5-million housebreaking incidents were recorded in 2025/2026, affecting over one-million households. According to findings from the governance, public safety and justice survey, theft of personal property was the most common crime, affecting about 1.2-million people, followed by street robbery. Statistics South Africa’s Risenga Maluleke says the report also shows that only 38-percent of people feel safe walking alone in their neighbourhoods at night, compared with 81-percent during the day:
