# Retired South African Defence Force soldiers are taking the Defence Department to court amid reports that thousands of military retirees and their families could lose medical cover from November. The Regular Force Medical Continuation Fund has reportedly warned it can no longer pay claims because it is financially unsustainable. Retirees, disabled veterans, widows and orphans could be affected. Retired General Les Rudman says the legal action seeks to protect the government’s long-standing medical obligations to former military members and their families.
