# The South African Local Government Association has criticised energy regulator Nersa for approving electricity trading licences to private entities, before establishing proper regulatory safeguards. Eskom has launched a court challenge against the approval of five electricity trading licences and one import/export licence. SALGA has argued that without proper regulatory frameworks, these licences create an uneven playing field that could devastate municipal revenue streams. It adds that Nersa’s decision threatens the very foundation of local government service delivery.
