# The South African Democratic Teachers’ Union has pledged support for Umalusi CEO Mafu Rakometsi as he begins his new role as President of the International Association for Educational Assessment. SADTU says his new role is a major step for South Africa on the global education stage. The union’s general secretary, Mugwena Maluleke, says it will back his efforts to strengthen educational assessment and improve learner performance both locally and globally.
