SA Glaucoma Society says unmanaged glaucoma leads to irreversible blindness [SOUND]

# The South African Glaucoma Society warns that only one in 20 citizens knows they have glaucoma, a leading cause of irreversible blindness. In commemoration of World Glaucoma Day, experts urge regular eye screenings to detect the disease early and prevent blindness. Studies show four-percent in the Sub-Saharan Africa are affected, with higher rates among Black communities. The society’s Philip Phatudi says 50-percent of patients are blind in one eye by the time they seek help:
