# The Public Protector’s Office has slammed Gauteng’s failure to improve essential services in Alexandra. Five years after its initial report, the area still faces issues of inadequate housing, illegal land occupation, and poor law enforcement. The 2021 report found that the allegations concerning the failure of the Human Settlements Department and the City of Johannesburg to provide adequate housing in Alexandra were substantiated. Public Protector advocate Kholeka Gcaleka has called on the provincial standing committee on Public Accounts to hold the provincial government accountable for not implementing remedial actions.
