# Pikitup urges Johannesburg residents to protect their wheelie bins from theft and reduce waste by separating recyclable materials from household rubbish. The city’s waste management entity says stolen bins contribute to illegal dumping, increase costs and delay replacements. Residents are also advised to keep bins on their properties if collections are delayed and to never put hot ash in them. Pikitup’s 240-litre bin distribution campaign has reached Roodepoort, Zondi and Marlboro, with distribution continuing in other parts of the city.
