# Parliament’s portfolio committee on Higher Education and Training says the damning Public Protector report on the National Student Financial Aid Scheme is not entirely surprising, given the persistent governance, administrative and system challenges. According to the report, approximately 40-thousand students across 76 higher education institutions were found to have been improperly funded to the value of 5.1-billion-rand. Committee chairperson Tebogo Letsie says students should not have to bear the consequences of governance failures and administrative weaknesses in an institution that exists to support their education.
