Parliament raises concerns over Commission spending and accountability

# Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities has raised concerns over irregular expenditure, consecutive deficits and a doubling of spending on consultants at the Commission for Gender Equality. The committee also questioned weaknesses in performance verification and demanded explanations for unfilled research posts. Members called for stronger consequence management, saying officials implicated in financial misconduct should not escape accountability by resigning. The committee urged the commission to pursue lawful ways of recovering public funds lost through misconduct, even after implicated employees have left their posts.
