Parliament is concerned about 49.1% compliance with the spectrum obligation target

# Parliament’s portfolio committee on Communications and Digital Technologies has expressed concern that mobile network operators have connected only ten-thousand-851 of the 21-thousand-878 public service institutions targeted for internet connectivity. The spectrum auction resulted in five successful bidders: Vodacom, MTN, Telkom, Liquid and Rain, who were allocated targets to connect public service institutions to the internet. Only Vodacom, Telkom and Liquid had reached the minimum connectivity threshold of 65-percent by March. The committee says operators must be held accountable for failing to meet their licence obligations.
