One-million kg of waste removed from Joburg CBD since January

# The City of Johannesburg has cleared one million kilograms of trash from the CBD in four months. The clean-up forms part of mayor Dada Morero’s Reimagining Joburg campaign. Since January, Pikitup, through weekly clean-up, has targeted hotspots like Marshalltown, conducting street sweeping and clearing skip bins. City officials confirmed that the broader Johannesburg region generates about 1.6-billion kilogrammes of waste annually. Critics argue that without stricter by-law enforcement, the waste problem will persist despite ongoing removal efforts.
