# We begin with cricket: South Africa will face New Zealand in the final of the T20 tri-series in Zimbabwe on Saturday after the Proteas claimed a seven-wicket victory over the hosts in Harare. Brian Bennett scored 61 as the hosts were restricted to 144 for six, with Corbin Bosch taking two wickets. In reply, Rubin Hermann’s 63 and captain Rassie van der Dussen’s unbeaten 52 helped the Proteas to victory with 16 balls to spare.
Meanwhile, the International Cricket Council has confirmed England as the host of the next three World Test Championship finals in 2027, ’29 and ’31. All of the first three showpieces have been held in England, with the most recent, this year’s edition last month, saw South Africa beat Australia to be crowned champions at Lord’s. England and Wales Cricket Board chief executive Richard Gould says this is a testament to the passion that fans have for this treasured format of the game.
# Golf: World number one Scottie Scheffler will attempt to complete the career Grand Slam on his 30th birthday at next year’s US Open. The American won his fourth major at the Open at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland yesterday. He now has the opportunity to join Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy as the only players to win a career Grand Slam. Scheffler says he is not motivated by breaking records:
# Motorsport: Six-time MotoGP champion, Marc Marquez, became the first Ducati rider to win five consecutive main races with victory at the Czechia Grand Prix. Aprilia Racing’s Marco Bezzecchi finished second with Pedro Acosta of Red Bull KTM Factory Racing in third. Marquez has extended his championship lead to 120 points over title rival and younger brother Alex, who crashed out during the second lap. South Africa’s Brad Binder finished ninth. Marquez says he is feeling good this season:
# And tennis: Canada beat host nation Italy 2-1 to win the Hopman Cup for the first time in Bari. Bianca Andreescu got Canada off to a winning start by beating Lucia Bronzetti, 6-2, 6-3. The hosts fought back as Wimbledon quarterfinalist Flavio Cobolli defeated Félix Auger-Aliassime in three sets. It all came down to the doubles, where Andreescu and Auger-Aliassime sealed the victory 6-3, 6-3, against Bronzetti and Cobolli.
