Good day, let’s look at the latest sports news and scores:
# First up we have Rugby: Springbok Sevens forward, Zain Davids, says discipline will be key in this weekend’s world series sevens tournament in Vancouver, Canada. South Africa is in the same pool as New Zealand, Great Britain and Ireland. The Blitzboks are currently fourth on the table. Davids, who is playing in his seventh Vancouver tournament, says it is about the squad playing to their full potential to achieve their goals in this year’s series:
# Cricket: England vice-captain Ollie Pope says chances are good captain Ben Stokes will bowl in the fourth Test against India that starts in Ranchi tomorrow. Stokes didn’t bowl since the second Ashes Test against Australia in July, and underwent a knee operation in November. He bowled in the nets yesterday and Pope says they will see how he feels. India is leading the five-match series 2-1 after humiliating England in the third Test in Rajkot, winning by a mammoth 434 runs.
# Soccer: Liverpool has moved four points clear at the top of the English Premier League after a second-half turnaround to beat Luton four-one at Anfield. Luton led at half-time through Chiedozie Ogbene’s header. In the second half, goals from Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo, Luiz Diaz and Harvey Elliott helped the Reds recover and secure the win. This is Luton’s third consecutive defeat and they remain in the relegation zone. Manager Jurgen Klopp says he is happy with the fighting spirit his team showed:
# Motorsport: Mercedes Formula One boss, Toto Wolff, says they are comfortable with the legality of their innovative front wing design on the new car. The front wing has been under scrutiny during pre-season testing in Bahrain because of how it will influence the airflow around the car. It seems the team has found a loophole two years after F1’s regulations were changed to ban detached wing elements. Wolff says they had discussions with the F-I-A during the conception of the front wing:
# And finally, Athletics: Former American Olympic champion Carl Lewis describes the proposed format change to the long jump as an April Fool’s joke. World Athletics CEO, Jon Ridgeon, proposes replacing the take-off board with a take-off zone, thereby doing away with foul jumps for overstepping. Jumps would then only be measured from where athletes took off to where they land in the pit. Lewis, who won nine Olympic golden medals, says long jump is the most difficult item and the change would eliminate the special skill it requires.
