# Isuzu Motors South Africa recalls more than two-thousand bakkies over a brake pedal issue

# The National Consumer Commission says Isuzu Motors South Africa has issued a safety recall of two-thousand-582 RG19 bakkies, which were made available between 11 May and 3 July this year. According to Isuzu, there is a possibility that the brake pedal pivot pin may be loose. The commission’s spokesperson, Phetho Ntaba, says affected vehicles were also exported to Botswana, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Eswatini, Uganda and Zambia:

# The Electoral Commission expects more political parties to approach the Electoral Court over candidate list submissions. The ANC has approached the court to challenge the IEC’s decision not to register party candidates in six municipalities. The party claims it was unable to register the candidates because of technical glitches in the IEC system. The Electoral Court dismissed the United Democratic Front Party’s urgent application to register candidates. The IEC reiterates there were no issues with the system that prevented parties from meeting the deadline.

Moving abroad:

# Tens of thousands of passengers remain stranded at UK airports today following a technical fault at the National Air Traffic Services. The issue caused some one-thousand-300 cancellations of flights to or from airports in the UK yesterday. According to FlightRadar, the worst affected airports were Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester and Birmingham. More than 250 flights have been cancelled today. NATS has ruled out a cyber-attack as the cause of the major outage. Even if the issue is resolved, the disruption is likely to persist due to backlogs.

# Tennis: American Ben Shelton knocked out defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in a five-set thriller to reach the US Open semifinals for the first time since 2023. The eighth seed battled past the Spaniard in four-hours-and-28-minutes in the quarterfinal clash that finished at 3:33 a.m. in New York – the latest finish for a match at the hard-court major. Shelton will face compatriot Frances Tiafoe, who came from two sets down to beat fellow American Alex Michelsen, for a place in the final.

# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 16-rand and the euro at 18-rand-62-cents. One British pound costs 21-rand-68-cents and Bitcoin trades at 79-thousand-477-dollars. Gold sells at four-thousand-403-dollars-75-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 101-dollars-42-cents a barrel.
