Good day, let’s look at the latest sports news and scores:
# We start with cricket: Reigning champions South Africa have moved to second in the ICC World Test Championship 2025 to 2027 standings. This follows their first Test victory in India since 2010 as they triumphed by 30 runs in Kolkata yesterday. The Proteas now have 24 points behind Australia, with Sri Lanka in third, India fourth, and Pakistan in fifth place. Each of the seven nations plays three series at home and away in the cycle. The top two teams will progress to the final in 2027.
# Rugby: Hooker Bongi Mbonambi and prop Ntuthuko Mchunu joined the Springboks in Ireland as Rassie Erasmus and his coaching team prepare for the final two clashes of the outgoing tour. Erasmus says the decision to call them up was prompted by the longer tour than usual, and the two big matches lined up against Ireland and Wales. The Springboks travelled from Italy to Dublin yesterday and will begin their on-field preparations for Saturday’s match against the Irish today.

The Brave Blossoms had three players yellow-carded during the match, while Welsh winger Josh Adams had a yellow card upgraded to a red for a dangerous clear-out. Jones also described Springbok lock Franco Mostert’s red card for a dangerous tackle on Italy’s flyhalf Paolo Garbisi as absurd:
# Tennis: World number two Jannik Sinner saw off his close rival Carlos Alcaraz to defend his ATP Finals crown in Turin. The 24-year-old Italian captured the title without dropping a set throughout the tournament, winning 7-6, 7-5 in the final. He has extended his indoor winning streak to 31 matches. Sinner, who is the ninth man to triumph at the year-end championships in consecutive years, says winning the trophy there is no better ending for him this season:
# And golf: Five-time major champion Rory McIlroy has won the Race to Dubai title for the fourth consecutive year and seventh time in his career. The Northern Irishman finished as the runner-up in the season-ending DP World Tour Championship in Dubai, which England’s Matt Fitzpatrick won in a playoff. Switzerland’s Ludvig Åberg and England’s Tommy Fleetwood shared third place. McIlroy says eclipsing Spaniard Seve Ballesteros’ tally of six titles is an honour:
