Good day, let’s look at the latest sports news and scores:
# We start with cricket: Proteas Women captain Laura Wolvaardt’s heroics in the World Cup in India propelled her to the top of the one-day batter’s rankings. She scored centuries in the semifinal against England as well as the final against the hostesses, which South Africa lost by 52 runs. Wolvaardt’s 571 runs in the tournament is the most in a single edition. She overtook India’s Smriti Mandhana in the number one position, with Australia’s Ash Gardner in third position. England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt is fourth and Australian Beth Mooney fifth.
In the men’s game, Quinton de Kock smashed a century to steer South Africa to an eight-wicket victory over Pakistan in the second one-day match in Faisalabad, and level the three-match series. Nandré Burger took four wickets as the Proteas restricted the hosts to 269 for nine. In reply, Lhuan-dré Pretorius shared a 98-run opening stand with De Kock, who scored an unbeaten 123. De Kock also shared a 153-run second-wicket partnership with Tony de Zorzi. South Africa reached the target with 59 balls to spare. The final ODI is tomorrow.
# Rugby: Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus says the selectors picked a team that is best suited to what they expect from France in Paris tomorrow. Boan Venter replaces the injured Ox Nché at loosehead prop, while Thomas du Toit, Eben Etzebeth, Pieter-Steph du Toit, and Damian Willemse all return to the starting lineup. RG Snyman drops to the bench. Erasmus says they are bracing for a fierce contest:

Player of the match, Emile Witbooi, scored the equaliser in the 16th minute to keep South Africa’s hopes of progressing to the knockout stages. Amajimbos are now second in Group A with four points following their opening victory over Bolivia. Three teams have secured their passage to the knockout stages: Argentina, Italy and Portugal.
# And finally, motorsport: McLaren’s Australian driver, Oscar Piastri, still believes he can win Formula One’s drivers’ championship. He led for six months before being overtaken by teammate Lando Norris when the Brit won last month’s Mexican Grand Prix. Piastri is now one point behind him, with Red Bull’s defending champion, Dutchman Max Verstappen, just 35 points adrift. This means this weekend’s Brazilian Grand Prix would be of great importance.
