Good day, let’s look at the latest sports news and scores:
# We begin with soccer: South Africa has been eliminated from the Under-20 World Cup in Chile, following a 3-1 defeat to Colombia in the round of 16. Joel Canchimbo opened the scoring for the South Americans in the seventh minute, but Amajita managed to equalise through Mfundo Vilakazi’s penalty kick. Two goals late in the second half from Neiser Villareal sealed the victory for Colombia to set up a quarterfinal clash against Spain. Nigeria was also knocked out through a 4-0 defeat to Argentina.
# Rugby: Four Springboks – Makazole Mapimpi, Ethan Hooker, Vincent Koch and Bongi Mbonambi – have been included in the Sharks’ squad for the United Rugby Championship clash against Leinster in Dublin on Saturday. Mapimpi and Hooker start, while Koch and Mbonambi are on the bench. Flyhalf Siya Masuku also makes a return on the bench and Jason Jenkins comes in for Deon Slabbert in the second row. The Sharks’ overseas tour saw them lose against Glasgow and draw with the Dragons.
# Cricket: Proteas fast bowler Kwena Maphaka has been ruled out of Saturday’s one-off T20 International against Namibia, and the tour of Pakistan due to a hamstring strain. The 19-year-old sustained the injury while playing for the Lions in Cape Town last week. He will undergo rehabilitation over the next four weeks. Dolphins fast bowler Ottneil Baartman has been named as Maphaka’s replacement, while Lizaad Williams has been added to the one-day squad for the Pakistan series.

The defending champions were reduced to 76 for seven, but Mooney scored a blistering 109 and shared the highest-ever ninth-wicket partnership in Women’s ODI history with Alana King, 106 off just 96 balls, as Australia recovered to 221 for nine in 50 overs. In reply, Pakistan were bowled out for 114. Mooney says batting was mentally tough:
# And golf: American Collin Morikawa denies his comments before last month’s Ryder Cup could have caused the spectators’ rowdy behaviour at Bethpage Park in New York. He asked home fans to pump up the volume and go crazy, and European players were heckled relentlessly while beer was even hurled at Rory McIlroy’s wife, Erica. Europe nonetheless won the competition. Morikawa says his comments had been taken out of context a little bit, and he didn’t mean for spectators to be rude:
