# President Cyril Ramaphosa arrived in Luanda, Angola, this morning, to attend the Seventh African Union-European Union Summit today and tomorrow. The summit marks the 25th anniversary of cooperation between the two unions and will focus on peace, security, governance, prosperity, migration, and mobility. South Africa aims to secure EU support for the AU’s Second Ten-Year Implementation Plan under Agenda 2063. Ramaphosa is accompanied by Minister Ronald Lamola.
# The SAPS has arrested 16-thousand suspects nationwide during the Safer Festive Season Operation and Operation Shanela Two, conducted in the week between 17 and 23 November. Police spokesperson Vincent Mukhathi says among them were 178 rape suspects, 143 for murder, and one-thousand-870 wanted for serious crimes, including hijackings, robberies, and drug trafficking. Mukhati says they also seized 150 unlicensed firearms, 984 dangerous weapons, and equipment linked to abalone poaching in the Eastern Cape:
# The Gauteng Education Department is mourning a Grade 12 learner who died after being struck by a bus during chaotic scenes at Schaumburg Combined School in Krugersdorp. The incident began when four boys apparently entered the school and a fight broke out. A bus driver drove off amid unrest, injuring several learners. The department’s spokesperson, Steve Mabona, says police are investigating, and psycho-social teams have been deployed:
# Israeli forces killed three Palestinians in Gaza near the line demarcating areas of Israeli control today. This underlines the struggle to broaden the fragile ceasefire deal approved early last month. Palestinian militant group Hamas and Israel signed a truce on October 9, but both sides have since accused each other of breaching the agreement.
# Soccer: Arsenal has moved six points clear at the top of the Premier League table with their 4-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the north London derby at the Emirates Stadium. Man of the match, Eberechi Eze, scored a sensational hat-trick after Leandro Trossard’s opener to secure a commanding victory for the Gunners. Title challengers Liverpool and Manchester City both lost on Saturday, to Nottingham Forest and Newcastle, respectively. Arsenal’s manager, Mikel Arteta, says they are not getting carried away:
