In this bulletin:
# Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi calls on Motau to clarify his exit from the Madlanga Commission and to not blame budget
# The DA vows to oppose Parks Tau’s proposed 3-percent BEE levy on unlisted businesses
# And Soccer: Bellingham is not named in England’s squad for October matches
# Justice and Constitutional Development minister Mmamoloko Kubayi has urged former Chief Evidence Leader of the Madlanga Commission, Terry Motau, to clarify his reasons for resigning. Kubayi dismissed claims that the 147-million-rand commission budget influenced Motau’s decision, stressing that finances have been properly managed. Speaking to SABC News, the minister reaffirmed her commitment to transparency and accountability, urging Motau to take the nation into his confidence:
# The DA says it will oppose minister of Trade, Industry and Competition, Parks Tau’s proposed three-percent Black Economic Empowerment levy on unlisted businesses. The party warns the levy would burden companies, hurt small businesses, and cripple job creation. The DA’s Toby Chance calls for true empowerment through jobs and entrepreneurship, rather than forcing businesses to funnel billions into state-controlled funds:
# Government has called on informal groups to participate in the G20 Social Summit. Government has opened registration for the summit, set for 18–20 November 2025 in Johannesburg. Under South Africa’s G20 Presidency theme of Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability, the summit will bring together civil society, youth, women’s groups, persons with disabilities, faith-based organisations, and grassroots networks to discuss global issues impacting daily life. Communities are urged to register and participate in this historic event.
# India and China will resume direct flights between their two countries this month after a five-year suspension. Direct flights between the world’s two most populous countries were suspended during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 and were not resumed as tensions grew between Beijing and New Delhi over border disputes. Relations between the Asian rivals have since thawed, and their leaders spoke in China in August and in Kazan in Russia last year.
# Soccer: Jude Bellingham was a notable omission from Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for this month’s double-header against Wales and Latvia. The Euro 2024 runners-up face Wales in a friendly next Thursday before continuing their World Cup qualification campaign away to Latvia five days later. Bellingham missed September’s camp after undergoing shoulder surgery but has since played four matches for Real Madrid. However, Tuchel has not named the 22-year-old in his 24-man squad, just two days after he was named as the 2024/25 England men’s player of the year.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-24-cents and the euro at 20-rand-24-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-20-cents and Bitcoin trades at 120-thousand-352-dollars. Gold sells at three-thousand-882-dollars-22-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 64-dollars-28-cents a barrel.
