BULLETIN 4 October 7 am
Good morning. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# The SACP calls on the UN to take urgent punitive action against Israel
# Trump issues an ultimatum to Hamas, or ‘all hell’ will break loose
# And Tshwane issues a traffic advisory ahead of the Pretoria Gay Pride march
# The South African Communist Party has accused Israel of worsening the genocide in Gaza by blocking the humanitarian Global Sumud Flotilla. The SACP says Israel’s interception in international waters denied desperate civilians urgent aid, while activists, including Chief Zwelivelile Mandela and Greta Thunberg, were detained. The party’s Mbulelo Mandlana calls on the United Nations to take urgent action and for the global isolation of Israel:
# Mining Affected Communities United in Action says the South African Human Rights Commission’s inquiry into artisanal mining and the Stilfontein crisis risks shielding the state rather than delivering justice. The organisation criticised years of delays, ignored recommendations, and the exclusion of victims and rescuers. The organisation’s Mpho Nkwana urges the commission to focus on accountability, include key community voices, and hold those responsible for the deaths of 87 illegal miners to account:
# The Freedom Front Plus says MK Party member of Parliament, Mzwanele Manyi’s proposed constitutional amendment on land is a distraction from the real threat, the upcoming Equitable Access to Land Bill. Manyi wants all land to belong to the government and for land claims to go back to 1652. The FF Plus’s Wynand Boshoff warns that the bill could let the government take land without paying, targeting big landowners and putting property rights, food security, and investments at risk.
# US President Donald Trump has issued an ultimatum to Hamas of midnight Sunday South African time to accept his Gaza peace deal. He wrote on his Truth Social platform that if this last chance agreement is not reached, all hell, like no one has ever seen before, will break out against Hamas. In the post, Trump said “innocent Palestinians” should evacuate an unspecified area in anticipation of a potential assault on Hamas’s remaining forces.
# Cricket: Dhruv Jurel and Ravindra Jadeja hit attacking centuries to put India in total control with a lead of 286 against the West Indies in the first Test. KL Rahul led the batting show with his 100 before Jurel, who made 125, and Jadeja piled on the agony for the opposition bowlers in a marathon stand of 206 on day two in Ahmedabad. India reached 448 for 5 at stumps in response to the West Indies’ first innings of 162. Jadeja was batting on 104 alongside fellow left-hander Washington Sundar, on nine, at the close of play.
# And finally: The City of Tshwane has warned motorists of affected streets as Pretoria Gay Pride holds a march advocating LGBTQIA rights. Participants will gather at SuperSport Park Cricket Stadium in Centurion from 11:30 AM and follow West, Lenchen, Jean, Gerhard, and Von Willich Avenues, dispersing by 3 PM. Tshwane Metro Police Department will monitor traffic. Streets affected include West, Lenchen, Jean, Gerhard, Von Willich, and Shelanti Avenues. Motorists are advised to use Rabie Street, South Street, Hendrik Verwoerd Drive, Glover Avenue, Clifton Avenue, or Heuwel Road.
