# And cricket: The US coach refuses to blame the stop-clock penalty for the loss to India
# The High Court in the Western Cape has dismissed Jabulani Khumalo’s urgent application to be reinstated on the MK Party’s parliamentary list. The expelled founder sought to be sworn in as a member of Parliament tomorrow. He alleged that Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla forged his signature on a letter that replaced him with former president Jacob Zuma as party leader. Zuma’s legal counsel, Thabani Masuku, argued that Khumalo’s application for reinstatement is hopeless.
Meanwhile, secretary to Parliament Xolile George says Parliament has been diligently preparing for the transition to the seventh administration, a pivotal moment in democratic history. Briefing the media, George declared the Cape Town International Convention Centre as the parliamentary precinct. He says tomorrow’s first sitting of the National Assembly and the National Council of Provinces in the centre represents the literal will of the people and the establishment of the new parliamentary term:
# Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation, Blade Nzimande, has welcomed the panel report on contents found in two rooms at Stellenbosch University’s Wilgenhof residence. It is allegedly related to institutionalised racism. The rectorate has endorsed the panel’s recommendation to close Wilgenhof at the end of the academic year and vice chancellor, Wim de Villiers, will table this recommendation at the next council meeting. Spokesperson Veli Mbele says Nzimande calls for collaboration to eradicate such behaviour at academic institutions:
# Cricket: US coach Stuart Law refuses to blame the stop-clock penalty for their loss to India in yesterday’s T20 World Cup group match. The co-hosts became the first team to be penalised under the new rule which compels the bowling team to start the next over within a minute after completing the previous one. India was on 76 for three after 15 overs when they received the five runs, and reached the target of 111 in the penultimate over. Law says they still have much to learn.
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-40-cents and the euro at 19-rand-85-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-51-cents and Bitcoin trades at 67-thousand-442-dollars-89-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-309-dollars-16-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 82-dollars-78-cents a barrel.
# And finally: A Great Dane named after Macaulay Culkin’s character from Home Alone has been crowned the world’s tallest dog by Guinness World Records. Kevin measures 97 centimetre from his feet to his shoulders, but is about 2.1 metres tall when on his hind legs. The three-year-old from Iowa lives with three other dogs and four cats. Owner Tracy Wolfe says he’s the epitome of a gentle giant and terrified of the family’s vacuum cleaner. She says Kevin does occasionally try to chase the cats but if he catches them, he just licks them.
