# Expelled MK Party founder Jabulani Khumalo has filed an urgent court application in the Western Cape High Court to prevent his removal as a member of Parliament. He challenges his expulsion by former president Jacob Zuma and demands reinstatement as the party’s number one candidate. Khumalo’s legal team argues the expulsion was unlawful and seeks an interim interdict pending final judgments. Urgency is stressed due to the imminent swearing-in of MPs, with Khumalo warning of irreparable harm if not reinstated. The court is set to hear the case on Thursday.
# Quantum Foods’ Malmesbury feed mill in the Western Cape has confirmed that an explosion on its premises resulted in a fatality. Two other people sustained serious injuries. The cause of the explosion remains unknown, and an independent investigation has been launched. The company says all safety protocols were followed, and emergency equipment was activated successfully. The company says it will provide support to the affected families.
# The High Court in Mbombela has sentenced Mpumalanga police constable Sizwe Cedrick Khoza to three life terms for the murder of his wife, her sister, and her brother in Hazyview. Khoza, who was stationed at Masoyi police station, pleaded guilty to three counts of murder. National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Monica Nyuswa says the court also declared him unfit to possess a firearm:
# British prime minister Rishi Sunak’s Conservative Party election manifesto emphasises border security. He says the aim is to curb illegal immigration and stop boats crossing the English Channel. With 2024 seeing a record ten-thousand-448 crossings already, Sunak confirmed deportation flights for illegal migrants will start next month. He pledged to halve immigration and stressed the importance of UK border security:
# SA Rugby has advised the Eastern Province Rugby Union to heed its earlier advice and hold a special general meeting within 21 days to elect office bearers. SA Rugby wrote to the union to reaffirm its position following a court order on 4 June which set aside the election of Gerald Antonie and Roger Serfontein as president and deputy president, respectively. The effect of the court order is to make vacant the positions of president, deputy president and chairperson of coaching and development.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-65-cents and the euro at 20-rand-1-cent. One British pound costs 23-rand-72-cents and Bitcoin trades at 66-thousand-908-dollars-22-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-313-dollars-44-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 81-dollars-49-cents a barrel.
