# Julius Malema calls for president Cyril Ramaphosa’s resignation after the Constitutional Court’s ruling
# Russia and Ukraine fight on despite a ceasefire proposal
# And rugby: The Springbok Deon Fourie captains the Stormers against Ulster tonight
# EFF leader Julius Malema says president Cyril Ramaphosa must resign following the Constitutional Court ruling that declared Parliament’s impeachment Rule 129 (i) unconstitutional in the Phala Phala farm theft. Malema argues the matter is serious and should not be political. He insists Parliament must proceed with urgency despite the high threshold required for impeachment. He also hailed ANC National Executive Committee member Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma for holding her stance:
Meanwhile, the Presidency says it has noted the judgment in the case brought by the EFF regarding Section 89 proceedings against president Cyril Ramaphosa. The court ordered Parliament to correct its rules, and the Section 89 report on the case must proceed to an impeachment committee. Spokesperson Vincent Magwenya says Ramaphosa has cooperated fully with investigations:
# Minister of Agriculture John Steenhuisen has welcomed the newly appointed members of the Perishable Products Export Control Board. This is an independent service provider of quality certification and cold chain management services for producers and exporters of perishable food products. The department’s spokesperson, Joylene van Wyk, says as the world’s trade landscape shifts, the role of the PPECB in providing independent, internationally recognised quality certification and cold chain management has never been more crucial:
# Russia and Ukraine accused each other of violating a unilateral two-day ceasefire announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin to cover the anniversary celebrations of the Soviet Union’s victory over Nazi Germany. Four years since the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine triggered the deadliest conflict in Europe since World War Two, they are still fighting each other. The Russian Defence Ministry said 264 Ukrainian drones targeting Moscow had been downed early this morning. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russian forces continued to strike Ukrainian positions during the night on Friday.
# Rugby: Springbok Deon Fourie takes over the Stormers’ captaincy from injured Ruhan Nel for tonight’s United Rugby Championship match against Ulster in Ireland. Regular captain Salmaan Moerat is still out with a long-term injury, but there’s a possibility he may be fit for next weekend’s final group match against Cardiff in Wales. The versatile Fourie will wear the number six jersey, while Dan du Plessis replaces Nel at outside centre. The Stormers are currently top of the log, with a good chance of securing a home quarterfinal.
