# Former political killings task team member Maxwell Wanda says during the December arrest of murder-accused Katiso “KT” Molefe, one of Molefe’s alleged bodyguards claimed the arrested businessman was friends with Police minister Senzo Mchunu. Testifying at the Madlanga commission in Pretoria, Wanda said he took the comment lightly and continued with the take-down operation, which included searching Molefe’s property in Sandhurst, Johannesburg:
# The National Prosecuting Authority has confirmed that one of the cousins killed in Mamelodi East, Pretoria, Tshiyamo Moramaga, was the girlfriend of murder-accused Tebogo Mnisi. Tshiyamo and Boleseng Moramaga were killed while their friend Desmond Semang, who was with the cousins at the tavern, survived. Tshiyamo reportedly sent a WhatsApp message for help that night. Mnisi abandoned bail today. The NPA’s Lumka Mahanjana says gender-based violence and femicide remain pressing concerns:
Voice It In Action founder Kgothatso Moloto has meanwhile called on president Cyril Ramaphosa to tackle gender-based violence and femicide. The case against Mnisi was postponed to 19 January next year. Moloto expressed concern over rising GBV cases:
# The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has officially launched the 2025/26 cruise season with the arrival of the Mein Schiff 4 at the port of Port Elizabeth. Mayor Babalwa Lobishe and ports manager Pamela Yoyo say the cruise season is expected to inject 120-million-rand into the local economy. This is through 25 cruise liner visits, including nine overnight stays, bringing over 40-thousand passengers. Lobishe and Yoyo say the cruise season will strengthen tourism, create jobs, and showcase the city’s vibrant culture and hospitality.
# Cricket: A masterclass by captain Laura Wolvaardt propelled the Proteas to a brilliant total of 319 for seven in their World Cup semifinal against England in Guwahati, India. This is the second-highest total in a World Cup knockout match. Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits built an opening stand of 101 before Brits departed for 45, followed by another two wickets before Marizanne Kapp added 42 runs. Wolvaardt contributed a mammoth 169 runs off just 143 balls, while Chloé Tryon scored an undefeated 33.
