# ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa is calling on men to do more to fight gender-based violence and femicide. He responded to the Ekurhuleni murders during the ANC Veterans League’s presidential golf day. Ramaphosa reiterated the scourge is a national crisis. He says men must respect and honour women, while government will deploy more resources, funding and technology to tackle the fear facing women:

Meanwhile, Gauteng police say the murder of Jabulile Ntimba, whose body was found in Dawn Park, Boksburg, last week, may be linked to a love triangle. A man and two women have been arrested and were expected to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court today. Deputy national police commissioner Tebello Mosikili told the media all nine cases involving women killed in Ekurhuleni are receiving priority attention:

# Businessman Joe “Ferrari” Sibanyoni says security company Gubis85 gifted him a bakkie as a token of appreciation for their relationship. He told the Madlanga commission the company confirmed in writing that the gift was for his birthday and not linked to any contract, favour or procurement opportunity. Responding to commissioner Sesi Baloyi, Sibanyoni revealed a long-standing relationship between Gubis85 and his foundation before the gift:

# The National Student Financial Aid Scheme has restored funding to 357 students from the Nelson Mandela University’s campuses in Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape and George in the Western Cape. The funds were previously withdrawn due to incorrect qualification codes. The news was announced during deputy Higher Education minister Yusuf Cassim’s official visit. Minister Buti Manamela promised NSFAS allowances and tuition will be paid on time for the next academic year.

# Tennis: South African team captain Pietie Norval was surprised by the high-quality performances from Bosnia and Herzegovina in the weekend’s Davis Cup World Group Two tie in Centurion. The visitors executed a clinical sweep, winning the pivotal doubles rubber yesterday before taking the reverse singles to seal a decisive 4-0 victory. Norval says they had hoped the high-altitude and fast hard-court conditions would work in their favour. South Africa will hope to bounce back in the World Group Two playoffs to be held early next year.

# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 16-rand-24-cents and the euro at 18-rand-66-cents. One British pound costs 21-rand-76-cents and Bitcoin trades at 85-thousand-41-dollars. Gold sells at four-thousand-352-dollars-40-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 102-dollars-10-cents a barrel.
