# Danny Jordaan’s fraud case is postponed for the defence’s response to the state’s arguments

# The Johannesburg Specialised Commercial Crimes Court in Palm Ridge has postponed the fraud and theft case against the president of soccer governing body SAFA, Danny Jordaan, and his co-accused to 27 August. This will allow the defence to respond to the state’s legal arguments regarding alleged delays in finalising the matter. Jordaan, former SAFA officials Grown Hluyo and Russell Paul, and former journalist and director of Grit Communications, Trevor Neethling, face charges linked to alleged unlawful agreements and payments exceeding one-million-rand.
# ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula says the party is united and focused on fixing local government ahead of the municipal elections. Speaking after the National Executive Committee meeting, Mbalula said the party had adopted plans to improve struggling municipalities, accelerate infrastructure delivery and address water shortages. He says the ANC is also intensifying efforts to implement its ten-point economic plan, including job creation, economic growth and easing the cost of living:

# Several people have been killed in a collision between a train and a school minibus in Buggenhout, Belgium. Flemish public broadcaster VRT reports the minibus with seven children, a chaperone and the driver were on a level crossing in the town when the accident happened. Federal police spokeswoman An Berger says the collision took place shortly after 6 am, while the barriers of the level crossing were down. No-one on the train was hurt.
# Cricket: Proteas Women captain, Laura Wolvaardt, says they are hungrier than ever to win the T20 World Cup, getting underway in England next month. South Africa has made three finals in as many years, two of which at the most recent T20 World Cups. The Proteas kick off their campaign against Australia on June 13th, followed by Pakistan, India, the Netherlands and Bangladesh. Wolvaardt says they are in a tough group:
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 16-rand-35-cents and the euro at 19-rand-2-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-2-cents and Bitcoin trades at 76-thousand-879-dollars. Gold sells at four-thousand-508-dollars-48-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 96-dollars-6-cents a barrel.
# And finally: Johannesburg-born singer Tyla has won two awards at the 52nd American Music Awards in Las Vegas. She took home Best Afrobeats, beating stars including Burna Boy and Wizkid, and also won Social Song of the Year for her hit Chanel. The victory makes her the first international artist to claim the social song award. The track has already passed 354-million streams on Spotify and made Tyla the first African artist to score multiple top ten hits on the global Spotify chart.
