# Seanago Attorneys have recommended that the principal of Daveyton Skills School in Benoni, Gauteng, be held liable for the drowning deaths of two learners. Sphamandla Peterson and Sibusiso Sibiya drowned during an unsanctioned discipline camp in Centurion in April. In a media briefing, Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane shared the investigative report on the tragic incident. The law firm’s Thembekile Graham says the principal reportedly admitted ignorance of the regulations for school excursions:
# The South African Human Rights Commission has condemned alleged racism at Pretoria High School for Girls. This follows the suspension of 12 learners accused of sharing racial messages on WhatsApp. A disciplinary process will commence this evening. The commission’s Tshepo Madlingozi told the SABC that schools fail to address the root causes, and calls for stronger reforms in schools:

# Tennis: Spanish veteran Rafael Nadal says he will make a decision on his future after the Olympic Games. This follows his humiliating defeat to old foe Novak Djokovic of Serbia in Paris yesterday. The 38-year-old fought hard, but it was clear he isn’t the player that he used to be anymore. He is still playing doubles with young compatriot Carlos Alcaraz. Nadal admits he does not have the legs of 20 years ago, especially because of a lot of injuries the last two years.
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-36-cents and the euro at 19-rand-88-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-58-cents and Bitcoin trades at 66-thousand-553-dollars-47-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-386-dollars-22-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 78-dollars-40-cents a barrel.
# And finally, the University of Fort Hare is part of a new international study to find a way to prevent Parkinson’s Disease. The disease is the second most common neurodegenerative disease in the world, affecting approximately 6.3 million people. The university’s Christopher Cupido, in collaboration with other South African and international researchers, is studying the possible use of the parasol lily. Researchers say the parasol lily holds potential for the development of a new drug to prevent Parkinson’s Disease. This is the first study done in the world on this plant.
