# Minister of Electricity and Energy Kgosientsho Ramokgopa attributes over 124 days without load-shedding to improved availability and strategic plans. Updating the media on the power crisis, Ramokgopa acknowledged the system’s vulnerability. He however credited Eskom for resolving the issue of demand exceeding generation, leading to a more stable power supply:
# Business Leadership South Africa CEO Busi Mavuso has highlighted the importance of recent legislation signed by president Cyril Ramaphosa. She believes the continuation of policy reform in South Africa is an important factor for attracting investors. The new Climate Change Act sets sector-specific carbon reduction targets, while the Public Procurement Act aims to transform state procurement processes. Additionally, amendments to the Companies Act simplify director disqualification and require detailed pay-gap disclosures in remuneration policies. Mavuso notes that these legislative changes signal a positive shift towards a more investor-friendly environment.
# The Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority says it acknowledges the ongoing interest and inquiries regarding the recent alleged illegal military training activities at a farm in White River, Mpumalanga provided by Milites Dei Security Services. PSiRA’s spokesperson, Mpho Sechoaro says the regulatory body is unable to grant interviews due to the ongoing investigations. More than 70-percent of the global workforce is now at high risk of extreme heat. Guterres says extreme heat is increasingly tearing through economies, widening inequalities, undermining the Sustainable Development Goals and killing people:
# Olympic Games: Tennis player Emma Raducanu has defended her decision not to participate in Paris for Team Great Britain, saying the change of surface would have been too much for her body. The 21-year-old suffered a slew of injuries since bursting on the international scene in 2021, when she won the US Open. She says it would’ve been too much playing on clay in the French Open, then on grass at Wimbledon and back to clay for the Games before the start of the hard-court season.
