Good afternoon. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# BOSA challenges the remaining ANC members named in state capture to hand themselves over to police
# A cruise liner collides with a container ship in Cape Town harbour
# And, boxing: Muhammed Ali’s trunks from “Thrilla in Manila” is expected to fetch up to 111-million-rand
# Build One South Africa says it challenges every one of those ANC members named in the Zondo commission’s state capture report to hand themselves over to police for investigation. Spokesperson Roger Solomons says while the corruption case against former National Assembly speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula continues, she cannot be the single sacrificial lamb offered up in an attempt to fix the ANC’s tarnished image of corruption, nepotism and general malfeasance:
# A cruise liner, Ambassador Cruise Line’s Ambience, collided with a container ship, Grey Fox, in Cape Town’s harbour this morning. The incident occurred during Ambience’s scheduled visit. Strong winds and waves have been reported as likely contributors to the collision. Both ships sustained minor damage, with no reported injuries or pollution. Ambience is safely docked and is expected to depart with one-thousand-400 passassengers tonight. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
Meanwhile, the City of Cape Town’s Disaster Risk Management Centre has alerted all relevant city services to be on standby, in the event of any potential weather-related impacts from tomorrow until Monday. The South African Weather Service warned that an intense cut-off low-pressure system is expected to affect the Western Cape. The centre’s spokesperson, Charlotte Powell, requests residents to clear out drainage systems, make sandbags and dig trenches to divert water away from the house:
# Eskom has announced load-shedding will remain suspended until further notice, following nine consecutive days of non-implementation. This is a result of sustained available generation capacity and adequate emergency reserves. Eskom will provide a system update on Sunday afternoon or communicate any significant changes should they occur.
# Boxing: Sotheby’s in New York awaits bids for the signed shorts Muhammed Ali wore in the “Thrilla in Manila” fight until next Friday. The legendary heavyweight wore the trunks when he beat Joe Frazier by a technical knock-out in the Philippines in 1975. Sotheby’s says the highest bid of 89-million-rand isn’t the minimum price the current owner wants, and it expects it could fetch up to 111-million-rand. Other sports gear on offer during the auction include a uniform from former NBA star Victor Wembanyama.
# And, the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-62-cents and the euro at 20-rand-17-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-51-cents and Bitcoin trades at 67-thousand-32-dollars-16-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-292-dollars-15-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 90-dollars-87-cents a barrel.
